Engineered Wood
For durability, the look and feel of real wood, and ease of installation, LP SmartSide engineered wood exterior cladding is hard to beat. Perhaps it’s because it’s made of real wood—then engineered to be even better.
- The LP® SmartSide® manufacturing process begins with logs of aspen—a sustainable wood that regenerates from the root. Logs are shaved into fine strands, which are dried and tumbled with a coating of waxes, binders and zinc borate. This SmartGuard process is what prevents fungal decay, guards against moisture, resists buckling or cracking, defends against termites and protects every piece of LP® SmartSide® from the inside out.
- To form finished LP® SmartSide® products, the treated shavings are arranged into panels of strength-oriented layers. With a moisture-resistant overlay added, each panel is compressed under steam heat to cure the resins and create the desired texture. Finally, the panels are trimmed, cut to size and primed.
LP® SmartSide® comes in two textures—cedar for a realistic wood grain texture and smooth for a more polished look. Its signature product—SmartSide lap siding—is manufactured to 16-foot lengths and a number of widths that make installation quick and easy thanks to fewer seams, less waste and its light weight.
